In order to give an insight into the people behind BEST, we’ve asked the programme management office team to answer some simple questions for a short online profile piece. We will be posting their answers each Friday, starting today with our ESDGC Manager Lara Hopkinson:
My role at BEST is… ESDGC Manager, so researching into ESDGC (Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship) and how the agenda is used within Higher Education and Further Education. Then developing advice and guidance for Delivery Partners on how ESDGC can be used more widely within their training organisation. Also developing a professional ‘What sustainability can do for your business?’ course and lead tutor for the course. I also have a wider role in the Welsh School of Architecture, as nominated school Environmental Compliance Officer, module buddy for a Core Masters module, Masters dissertation supervisor and personal tutor for Masters students.
An average day at the office is… varied. It can either involve reading, researching, writing, guiding members of the team (I am responsible for three members of staff), participating in team requirements or trying to think of ways to continue the Programme after this initial round of funding.
The thing I like most about my job is… that it is varied but based upon a topic that I feel passionate about. I’m also learning new things, and undertaking research again which is an added bonus.
The best thing about BEST is… what it is trying to achieve – develop and deliver professional training that meets an actual need, rather than what we think is needed. And the team of people working on the Programme is truly lovely!
I’m proudest of… running the London Marathon in 2005 and raising over £4000 for Breast Cancer Care in memory of my mum. Oh, and raising our two sons!
My personal motto is… everything happens for a reason. I am a strong believer in this.
