Illman Young & EPG to deliver BEST SuDS and WSuDS training

Leading landscape design consultants with specialist expertise in sustainable drainage systems will share their knowledge with professionals in Wales.

Illman Young and the Environmental Protection Group (EPG) have been appointed by the BEST Programme to develop and deliver innovative accredited training for built environment professionals working in the water and drainage sectors.

“The exceptionally wet spring, followed by a dry, hot summer, has emphasised the increasing importance of sustainable drainage and water conservation,” said BEST director, Dr Julie Gwilliam, of the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University.

“We need our professionals to have the knowledge and skills to create drainage systems that ensure water stays where it is needed, and also green roofing systems that don’t just channel water into rivers, but act as insulation and enable water to evaporate.

“In Illman Young and EPG, we have world-leading experts, who can share their expertise with built environment professionals in Wales. We know there is a real need for this knowledge in certain parts of Wales, and the potential environmental and economic benefits are huge for employers, employees and society as a whole.”

Sue Illman, Director Illman Young said ‘Despite the delays to the full implementation of the Floods and Water Management Act, the use of SuDS in new developments is growing rapidly, so it is crucial that all those involved in the built environment gain a good understanding of best practice.  We are pleased to be part of building that knowledge in Wales.’

Training will take place across Wales from September 2014 and into 2015 and will use a blend of traditional and online learning.
