Why choose this course?

The course will enable you to understand the value of low carbon buildings and to implement strategies to reduce energy consumption. You will be learning and gaining confidence with specific aspects like: energy sustainability ratings, benchmarking carbon performance, using renewable energy technologies to offset energy demand, developing carbon reduction plans, communicating effective measures with clients and understanding the economic implications of proposed decisions.


The course will consist of:

  • Online material (accessible via desktop / tablet or mobile both pre and post session).
  • A full day face-to-face session at different locations in Wales
  • Practical element: scenario modelling and reporting to be developed during the course on 2 practical case studies of your own interest.
  • Assessment: a final assessment to be completed at the end of the face-to-face session and related to the concepts and key aspects learned during the course.

Architects and other professionals with responsibilities for design and management of low carbon buildings.

Course dates

Bute Building, Cardiff
Face-to-face session on the 6th July from 9:30am to 3:00pm (including a site visit to Hadyn Ellis Building and lunch) and on 16th July from 9:00am - 11:00am (assessment)

Brown Bag sessions availability
We are able to deliver half day sessions at your office within these dates. Sessions run over 5 days with first and last day face-to-face at your office.
23rd June - 24th June (session to be completed between 30th June - 1st July)
7th July - 10th July (session to be completed between 14th July - 15th July)

In order to attend the course free of charge you must fit the eligibility criteria:

  • Live or work in one of Wales' Convergence Areas
  • Be employed or self employed
  • Work in the built environment sector or allied services
  • NOT work for a Public Sector organisation

In order to ensure the eligibility of delegates, you will be asked to complete a Participant Form and supplementary information to evidence eligibility.
