The Construction & Demolition sector accounts for one third of all waste arisings and has made great strides in diverting waste to landfill. However, the biggest opportunities to reduce wastes exist much earlier on in the process - at the design stage.

Come along to this session to learn about the key drivers in reducing wastes generated, when and where the biggest material efficiency improvements can be made and how cost savings can be achieved. be in existence in 2050 has already been built. Therefore, as population continues to grow and natural resources deplete worldwide we must rethink the way we construct and deconstruct our built environment.

Course details

On registration, you will be provided with a link to course pre-reading.  This is a required aspect of the course.  You will then attend a face-to-face session, where issues and solutions will be outlined in an interactive session.  The session will also include a Designing out Waste workshop session - here participants will gain practical experience of using the principles outlined in the course to complete an assessment.

Participants who complete the entire course will qualify for a 1-credit qualification in Designing out Waste.  Participants only attending the face-to-face session will achieve a CPD certificate.

Architects and other professionals with responsibilities for project design and waste management.

Session times: 9:00-12:30


In order to attend the course free of charge you must fit the eligibility criteria:

  • Live or work in one of Wales' Convergence Areas
  • Be employed or self employed
  • Work in the built environment sector or allied services
  • NOT work for a Public Sector organisation

In order to ensure the eligibility of delegates, you will be asked to complete a Participant Form and supplementary information to evidence eligibility.
