Constructing Excellence in Wales is leading the waste theme of the BEST project. We are the umbrella body for the construction industry in Wales, which makes us the business improvement organisation for anyone involved with the Welsh built environment. Funded by the Welsh Government, our remit is to improve the construction process in Wales and ensure the principles of rethinking construction outlined by the Egan and Latham reports become mainstream industry practice.
CEW commenced in October 2012 with the skills needs analysis of the built environment sector in Wales with the gathering of the necessary data from the experts in the field. Employers, academics and stakeholders will identify and enable the future education requirements in Wales in order to achieve the Towards Zero Waste targets of 90% by 2019/20. The key areas of the waste theme are:
Waste minimisation and prevention including promoting the design to minimise waste;
Deconstruction skills including design skills for the promotion of reclamation and reuse of materials.
CEW will also be contributing to the themes on-site & off-site construction within the BEST programme.
